Dealing with wet weather
Protect the Coop and Run
Keep bedding dry: Check for leaks in the roof and add fresh, clean straw or wood chips if the floor gets damp.
Move food and water: Put feeders and waterers under a covered area so the feed does not get wet and moldy.
Block puddles: Fill up muddy holes with wood chips or shavings so chickens do not drink dirty, bacteria-filled standing water.
Provide outdoor cover: Hang a tarp over part of the run or lean a panel against the fence to give them a dry spot outside. Clear glass tarps will promote egg laying as its light that stimulates egg laying.
Care for the Flock
Prevent boredom: Hang a head of cabbage or toss in some seeds to keep them busy if they are stuck inside. Feed layers mash as it keeps them busy for longer than pellets.
Keep good airflow: Do not seal the coop up completely; they still need fresh air to prevent moisture build up, even in temperatures below freezing - keep the vents open.
