New to chicken keeping

We booked onto the new chicken keepers session, which is great value for £5. Jeff was great, very knowledgeable, friendly and accomodating, and took plenty of time to talk us through all aspects of chicken keeping. He showed us around the yard, talked to us about the different types of coops, materials, sizes, and pros and cons, the materials we'd need like bedding, the food, and the equipment like feeders and drinkers. After this, he took us to see the chickens, and talked to us about the different breeds, what they needed, and how to best look after them. Before we knew it, we'd bought all of the equipment, 5 hens, and were loading up the car. Jeff was a great help fitting everything in, and kept answering all my questions whilst doing it. We really appreciated the time he took with us, the information he gave, and how knowledgeable he was. Following our purchase on site, we then ordered a run and tarp through the website. This was delivered within 2 days (ordered Sunday, arrived Tuesday) and was exactly what we needed with our coop to keep our hens safe at night and if we go out during the day. The hens started laying within a couple of weeks, and have been loving life free ranging in our garden. We will be using Chartley Chucks going forward for all our chicken needs. Thanks again to Jeff for all his help.

Digger by name, digger by nature

Loves to scratch round in the garden. The most determined digger of my little flock. Loves to disappear into the bushes and scratch around, but returns to the coop to lay after the first couple of weeks confined. The twitchiest about being picked up, but chickens are stupid so with a bit of food, easy to catch. All of the birds I have had from Chartley Chucks (apart from the one who was Sunday Lunch for a fox) are healthy, laying well and are a source of great enjoyment for the kids as they will eat from the hand.
